{"id":159,"date":"2012-12-10T16:38:23","date_gmt":"2012-12-10T13:38:23","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/mobiletransport.wordpress.com\/?p=159"},"modified":"2012-12-10T16:38:23","modified_gmt":"2012-12-10T13:38:23","slug":"tco-of-mpls-tp-versus-ipmpls","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/telecomlighthouse.com\/?p=159","title":{"rendered":"TCO of MPLS-TP versus IP\/MPLS"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>ACG Research has done an interesting TCO of <a href=\"https:\/\/telecomlighthouse.com\/blog\/are-you-asking-these-questions-from-your-potential-mpls-tp-vendors\/\">MPLS-TP versus IP\/MPLS<\/a> showing there is a huge reduction of\u00a0 Total Cost of Ownership (TCO) in MPLS-TP versus IP\/MPLS.\u00a0\u00a0The analysis was done in two environments: <a href=\"https:\/\/telecomlighthouse.com\/blog\/ipmpls-made-easy-for-backhaul\/\">Native\u00a0Packet transport\u00a0\u00a0on MPLS-TP versus IP\/MPLS<\/a> \u00a0and second one using TDM\/Packet mix on MPLS-TP versus Circuit emulation on IP\/MPLS.\u00a0\u00a0The platform used for\u00a0 MPLS-TP was from ECI Telecom.\u00a0 Further and most importantly Mobile backhaul was chosen as the network for analysis purpose.<\/p>\n<p>https:\/\/www.acgresearch.net\/tcos\/eci-telecom&#8217;s-mpls-tp-npt-solution.aspx<\/p>\n<p>The analysis proved\u00a0a couple of \u00a0things:<\/p>\n<p>1. The TCO (\u00a0CAPEX and OPEX) over 5 years \u00a0for pure packet transport using MPLS-TP is 55% lower compared to IP\/MPLS.<\/p>\n<p>2. When TDM services were added to the network. CAPEX on ECI NPT solution increased by 5% while the Circuit emulation addition on IP\/MPLS increased its CAPEX by 37%. The 55%\u00a0 OPEX saving in the first study increased to 64% when TDM traffic was added.<\/p>\n<p>The high reason for the OPEX on IP\/MPLS was attributed to the need for highly skilled technical staff needed to <a href=\"https:\/\/telecomlighthouse.com\/blog\/need-quick-recipe-sdn-wan-mix-bgp-ls-pce\/\">maintain IP\/MPLS network compared<\/a> to MPLS-TP.<\/p>\n<p>Among OPEX, things like <a href=\"https:\/\/telecomlighthouse.com\/blog\/is-juniper-on-the-right-track-with-its-aiops-an-sp-perspective\/\">Network care<\/a>, training, Network patches and upgrade, Cooling cost, Power cost, Service contract were compared.
